We are taking bids for 2022, 2023 and 2024
Top Ten Reasons Why I Can't Host the NFA National Championship Tournament
Top Ten Reasons Why I Can’t Host NFA
And the top ten answers why NFA needs you to...
10. I’ve already hosted.
Exactly...which means that your campus has the capability and your institution has the knowledge of what it takes to host.
9. Someone else should host.
You are right, someone should. But no one is stepping up. As this point we have no bids for any upcoming years. We have no site for 2022, 2023 and 2024.
8. It costs too much money to host.
Most campuses allow free use of classrooms while on campus, however there are some institutions that charge for the use of some of the non-academic rooms. Don’t assume you have to pay for that space from your own pocket. Let that cost be part of your bid. Remember, if you host, then you don’t pay the transportation (and maybe even hotel cost) for your team. Your program also gets the school fee for hosting (20.00 from each school attending-around $1600.00). NFA pays for judges/schematics/ballots. You can also apply for additional funding (NFA can match the amount you received from the school fee-up to $2400.00) as long as you provide invoice or receipt. This funding can be used to offset the cost postings/videotaping/booklet/ reception expenses.
7. Hosting takes away from my team!
Yes it does, hosting does require that you put the tournament first while it is happening. However, there is nothing that says you can’t use hosting as a teaching tool for your students. Teach them the benefit and ins and outs of hosting. Teach them about giving back to an activity that has given them so much. Teach them about leadership and service.
6. Hosting is a lot of work!
Bottom line is NFA needs you to provide rooms/judges/hotels the actual job of putting together the tournament and running the tournament is performed by the NFA Tournament Director and their staff.
5. I don’t even know where to start!
It all starts with a conversation. Just shoot an email to mkoch@ilstu.edu and we can start looking at the prospect of hosting. Bid applications must be submitted by November 15th. We will entertain bids for subsequent years at any time. The Council will have to decide on the location by March to notify the community.
4. There are no benefits of hosting!
Ask any past host why they hosted, and the reasons/benefits of hosting will vary from host to host. Some host to give legitimacy to a new program in the eyes of the community (both forensics and local)/administration. Some host to garner alumni support. Some host to help celebrate a program anniversary. Some host to give back to the community.
3. I don’t have the room to host!
We hear this argument a lot. Before you say you can’t host because your campus is too small, look at the numbers. Pattern A uses an average of 65 rooms; Pattern B uses an average of 77 rooms; Pattern C uses an average of 85 rooms; Pattern D uses an average of 85 rooms; LD uses an average of 49 room. If you remember, we agreed several years ago that a host could opt for a Sat-Tues schedule. We are willing to work around the rooms you have. Even to break up a pattern if we need to. We have also used local high schools who had rooms after 3:00 on Th/Fri. Be creative in your thinking and we can be creative in the schedule.
2. We don’t have the hotels to host!
Normally we need about 250-300 hotel rooms. No one said they had to be in your town. Schools have driven on many occasions 20-25 miles to and from the hotels in nearby towns. If you book it, they will come.
1. Maybe next time!
Next time is here. No one has stepped up yet. Please let the next few years be your year to host.
